I’ve been occasionally plagued by nightmares since I was a child. In fact, I can recall quite a few of them even today in my middle age. One in particular involved a giant, brightly lit pastry shop full of all manner of goodies that I was forced to choose from while suffering from not-so-surreal-stomach-pains. Upon waking I promptly puked all over the side of the bed.
This night however was strange in that I don’t actually remember the visual images that spawned the horde of nightmare spooked anxiety. It seemed more about how I felt in the world rather than watching some horrid dream about disease or violence blossom before my inner eyes. Specifically I how I feel in the winter wonderland that has just graced our doorways yards, and streets.
I feel simultaneously clutched by claustrophobia and lost and alone in the cold white vastness of the season.
This is not unlike how I sometimes feel about the web actually. The big, world wide, usually friendly, web. As I sit down and type out a piece of my story on a white background, I wonder how much of it will actually get heard, how much will just get swallowed up by the vastness, or how much will just get piled on top of all the rest of the content out there as millions of readers slide right over it unknowingly.
I really hate to add to that pile, what one of my internet guru friends calls the “echo chamber”. Millions of digitized voices all saying the same thing over and over, in blogs, videos, comments, etc. It’s this popularity contest that we as social media “personalities” both strive for and I think in our hearts probably abhore, if we are REAL anyway.
This preoccupation with getting large numbers on the web reminds me of one of the musings within the book The Little Prince :
Grown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: “What does his voice sound like?” “What games does he like best?” “Does he collect butterflies?”. They ask: “How old is he?” “How many brothers does he have?” “How much does he weigh?” “How much money does his father make?” Only then do they think they know him.
But on days like this I almost fear that I am too small a blip on the screen…a very childish fear I am sure, but one I cannot help have while being so sensitive to the world, web and real.
I just hit a car today. My first vehicle accident. Airbag blew up in my face (they smell awful btw) and reduced me to blubbering tearful girlness. I am okay, other than a slightly stinging lip. God do I feel “extra special stupid” though. I think this tops the cake on stupid for me…
I didn’t even see it coming…like the last time I was hit in the face…
This is what a girl gets for getting perpetually stuck in her head…her stupid spacey head.
The ole immune system has been freakin out a touch…
no it’s NOT swine flu…
it’s just a touch of mono…that’s right…mono…actually epstein barr…a lovely little virus that likes to snuggle in one’s body forever and occasionally gets a bit active. it mostly makes me sleepy but sometimes it’s a touch, flu-ish and painful. meh.
I figured I would try to sleep myself out of the relapse today and had a mighty nap. but then I woke up to pee.
interesting stuff huh? yeah, my life is weird.
anyhoo…I’ll get back to it…whatever “it” is at the moment :)
So I have many projects that I work on and today I’m pretty busy with the main one. All of them involve being on the web so I’m a pretty good expert on how to utilize the web and getting it to enhance your life. Here’s the tools I use nearly every day:
Google Docs – great for sharing documented info across the web. Mindomo – mind mapping software that nicely organizes all my little brainstorms and ideas. Facebook – fantastic for staying connected with friends AND business contacts. Youtube – for tutorials and getting a feel for what the competition is producing and sharing with the public Google – used of course for researching.
That’s just the basic list. Later on I’ll share my tips on using these to maximum benefit. But until then, must plug away!
Fashion obsessed girls, I have a question for you: Do you dress fashion forward or do you dress feminine?
What’s the difference you ask?
Well one is more for yourself and to impress other women (Fashion Forward) and the other is dressing more to attract men (Feminine). So I suppose the real question girls is: Do you dress for men or do you dress for women?. Here’s another breakdown for you:
Fashion Forward is:
*dynamic
*bold
*cutting edge
*androgynous
*sexy in a high fashion model way ala “my cheekbones and clavicle bones can slice you in two!” Think: Mary Kate Olsen (you know with her slouchy coolness and morbid hotness)
Feminine is of course:
*body hugging
*form fitting
*flirty
*pretty or cute
*sexy in a playboy bunny way ala “here’s my boobs, betcha wanna play with em!” Think: Kim Kardashian (ever noticed that girls ass? it’s devestating! I’m sure it’s given J-Lo a marathon run for her money!)
Personally I veer slightly more towards men because I enjoy flirty with them and accentuating my femininity. But I also have a very strong creative streak that allows me to get all creative and experimental.
I promised to post links from my video so here they are for you girls! Fashion/Makeup Links for the Ladies!
*Fashion: Veni Caprice: store on Etsy where I got my awesome revolver hoodie dresses.

Last Day of My First Week! It’s been a helluva start! Later on today I will do a recap of the events and try to answer some of the questions I’ve received from some of you (like…”uh, what is it about?”)
In other news, as I was “approving” the comments for this blog I noticed that I have not received ANY spam comments to date! That is amazing since on my other blog (catthegirlguru.com) I get like 20 a week all spouting various gibberish at me.
REAL, ACTUAL COMMENTS!!!! God, they are just golden! I think…I’m gonna cry a little…
Okay maybe not actually cry but I still think it’s total RadCakes! :) Thank you!!
Speaking of REAL friends and REAL comments from such I want to give Big Pretty Thanks to Michelle for steppin up and being the first girlfriend to comment on this site. Such a goddess! In fact, I shall change your name in my phone to include the “goddess” tag :)
Yay! Keep it comin! Oh and feel free to comment with any questions you have about the project like “why are you doing this?” or “what was that you said on that last video?”, etc. etc. And also I would love to hear your thoughts on the topics I blog about.
Pardon my stink. I forgot to put on deodorant after I got up and attended to Five Thousand Things At Once. Hey it happens. I’m not the smelliest of girls though so I didn’t notice until I cleaned out my purse and found a roll-on from Avon. Always good to put backup stuff in your purse girls!
Anyway…you ever notice how every Simpson’s episode starts out with one story for about a minute and then blossoms into this completely different story for the rest of the show? It goes from Apples to NOT oranges but politically ambitions sea urchins or something not naturally related?
I love that! So yeah, my deodorant has no natural connection to this post :) Other than it’s a mundane REALITY thing that I do often forget when I get wrapped up in being on the web or social networking. Cause hey! I don’t have to smell good while leaving a comment on your facebook profile! haha!
Anyway, today I gotta get back to my working reality. To like pay bills and shit. It’s been a frantic sort of week back and forth the web and my social life in the real world. Time to work so I can actually pay for all that stink pretty my underarms need and my real life friends appreciate me wearing :)
got some new vids up on my youtube channel: “girlgurutv” in case you are interested.
and leave a comment if you feel so inspired. even just to say “hello”. in fact if you leave just one word, ANY word in the comment box I will totally freak out with happiness and comment back to you and thank the bejeezies out of you on here or whereever :)
First off let me say: Johnny “AwDaMaDDiX” is a “saint”! Thanks for commenting on my still crappy generic looking website! Love it! Any more saints out there? I <3 your web generosity!
Anyhoo. Yesterday was great fun and I had a blast at the Halloween Party I helped decorate at my friends coffee shop. Talked with a lot of fantastic looking people in costume and was really impressed by the staying power of the helium filled balloons I bought 24 hours earlier.
Today, and after a freshly de-cluttered vehicle and purse (fast talking video <a href=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC5Z3rI-hwY”>here</a>) one of the MAJOR thoughts about this project occurred to me: answering 2 questions when blogging and sharing information in social media:
1)Deciding “What” To Talk About
and 2)Deciding “What NOT” To Talk About
Now…I can ramble on and on about all sorts of stuff cause I’m a chatty, curious, and imaginative gal. But unless you actually give a shit or it’s of any VALUE then it’s not really worth publishing and cluttering up the Web world with right.
Yeah. Always gotta keep that in mind with this thing.
The latter is of course much more of a challenge but makes what is actually talked about all the more powerful.
okay. deep thoughts. will talk more…and less later ;)
Today is going to be MASSIVE fun. And also some work of course. I got a wedding to attend in a very spooky building and the guests were explicitly told NOT to dress in costume-cause that would just distract from the beauty of the bride and groom. I’m down. That is noooo problem for me. So I’m going for a casual sort of gothic look-wearing a long black empire gown worn just under my boobs and just OVER a white t-shirt. Plus I’m accessorizing with an old time-y black pendant and black drippy earrings.
I would take a photo…but my camera is currently uploading video to youtube and thusly is a bit preoccupied. I’ll show photos in the Weekly recap though :)
