hmm...interesting. thanks for the tips @ericmichael - and for commenting on my blog for the first time! I just set up Askimet with this blog after @michelle's suggestion and I haven't seen any amusing spam or otherwise since setting it up. but we shall see - it's only been about a week ;) and yeah...the 'moustache' thing is pretty awesome. lol. that reminds me I need to spread some 365daygirl love across the web myself - in a nonspammy way of course ;)

These ppl tend to run automated software that just finds and spams the crap out of any and all wordpress sites. An idea to limit this might be to remove the Powered by Wordpress line in the footer of the blog. They could be using that to find targets. They don't really want you to buy crap. The reason they put the link on your blog is so that when Google Bot visits your site, they will see you have a link to their site. It counts as a bonus point for them and helps increase their search engine rank. Annoying crap. I'm still laughing about the 'stache line in it though. Weird! haha

ah that is awesome! it's funny, I thought I had askimet installed on my wp site already but I guess I never activated it or something, cause I remember seeing the name before. also I just registered for a key so thank you for mentioning that - without you saying that I had no idea that was a primary step to get it to work. I just installed it again, activated it and put in my license key. thanks again michelle!
