This blog is getting a tune up – so if I were you I’d check back here again soon cause the content is getting better & smoother my lovelies!
In the meantime here’s my picks for content awesomeness!
1) Modern Lady on Current TV – Erin reminds us to not get our panties in such a bunch okay!
2) Target Women also on Current TV – I heart Sarah Haskins in that totally non-gay girl way ;)
3) Closet 365 – way more on the ball than me with the updates and so lovely!
4) Deep Glamour – questions what makes clothes seductive?
5) All Women’s Talk – for all sorts of girly goodness!
I recently left a comment on one of my favorite girly websites FabSugar about a celebrity whatshername’s so called inability to rock a high fashion outfit. Because of blah blah blah that and blah blah blah this. *Grrrr*
It really gets my panties in a bunch whenever I hear women bash on other women for not wearing the right shoes, or having the wrong hair, or liking an outfit but disliking the woman in it, etc. etc. etc.
Why?
I have a few reasons:
Reason 1) It’s a goddamn free country!
And we are blessedly free women too! Despite budget limitations or capabilities great fashion is available to us all and we all have the blissful right to explore it and find our own style. Whether you can sew it, buy it, borrow or DIY it you are free to wear whatever you damn well like!
Reason 2) Style is a practice
I nearly go through the roof when hearing that someone (usually a celebrity caught in public headlights) is deemed by others as not having the “chops” to pull off high fashion. How does one get that skill? Practice practice practice! And progression! That means NO girl or woman should be limited to training wheels or a soft served diet of “classics” & “basics”. Practicing & experimenting with wilder shit and soon enough a girl will be rockin her own trends.
Reason 3) An outfit works or it doesn’t
I mentioned this in my comment – and it’s super simple really. Celebrities get the brunt of it because they are under the microscope every damn day while five bajillion non-celeb people each take turns poking at every little thing about them with tweezers. But us behind the scenes chicks get it too. You can get told by anyone from your mother to the sales girl that you are “too skinny!” or “um your hair should be longer”…tsk tsk! UGH!!!Being barred from wearing certain things based on the “opinion” of others is really cruel. And sometimes an entire outfit (and along with it the woman often enough!) is deemed unsuitable based on a tiny thing like a girl’s hairstyle or the color of her shoes when she should still get kudos for getting everything just fine. OR pointed in a more beautifying direction with a different color choice, etc. That “works”.
An outfit “doesn’t work” when absolutely nothing in the ensemble harmonizes or it all overloads the senses in a garish way – and that takes a helluva lot actually.
I get that there are fashion faux pas (”misstep” in French actually) and there are some ugly catastrophes that can occur but as long as a girl keeps a cool head and learns something as she experiments there is no reason for her to limit herself even when she doesn’t get every single thing perfect.
I KNOW because I myself have suffered the bad perms, neon biker shorts, and hammer pants of yesteryear *shudder*. But I learned and took stock (Curly hair is still fun – just shape it; Skin tight can be sexy, just be careful; hammer pants were the old haram pants, go figure!)
So can you, and everyone else. Just pay attention.
Meanwhile I’ll say it again and so should you: Fashion police – step off!
That is all – I’ll return next week for a more…informative post ;)
Happy Styling!
Since I’m up to my eyeballs in “other” work projects (yes that’s right it’s not all glamor & fashion) here’s another review for ya. I created the makeup design pictured above w/ the cheap as hell “White” eyeliner pencil from Wet n Wild. Girls, I tell ya, their pencils are a must for your beauty kits since they work beautifully and don’t cost bunches. Come on we’re still in a recession right? You don’t have to blow all that hard earned cash on pricey department store eye makeup mkay? Let me save you from yourself and those creepy ladies who work the cosmetics counter. Pick these up instead at the drugstore down the street…or whatever. My suggestions? Gray is a gorgeous neutral and white is wonderfully thick making it great for fantasy details or brightening up the inner corner. And sure black is a basic.
Happy Beauty Making! Feel free to comment below and make fun of my photo ;) lol.

Girls let me tell you. It’s pretty damn difficult to copy celebrity style. The trouble usually begins with not having buckets of cash to plop down for whatever your little fashion heart desires. Also most of you aren’t oozing out your pores the fame that compels top designers to throw their most glamorous clothing at you every minute. And look, I know you want to look just as effortlessly gorgeous as Miley Cyrus, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce, or Katie Perry…or whoever you admire. But the fact is well, Angelina is Angelina, Beyonce is Beyonce, and so on. They OWN their style. So should you.
The good news is that you can copy and borrow from “Iconic Styles” that easily fit into your own.

What do I mean by Iconic?
Think easy to recognize characters:
The Rocker Chick
The Cheerleader
The Hot Librarian
The Sexy Secretary
The Goddess
Most celebrities are already doing this and actors get a lot of practice with the movie roles they are cast in. The awesome difference is they don’t just dress up and play one character all the time. They have their own fashionable little group of icons to choose from. And so can you! The additional beauty of it all is you can infuse each iconic look with your own unique flavor each time. Your own “Goddess Style” isn’t the cardboard cutout copy of Angelina’s! Your Rocker Chick won’t be the exact over the top duplicate of Lady Gaga’s.

So stay tuned and I’ll happily blog for you ways that you can pull off your own version of Sexy Secretary, Pop Diva, or Fierce Glamazon. You can pick and choose the elements that make up whatever iconic look you want – I’ll show you how on Wednesdays.
In the meantime, would you indulge me a moment and list some characters you would love to dress up as? From your favorite movies and stories. Share those dress up fantasies! I bet I could help you make them a reality – just let me know!
Happy Styling!
Do you slick on the gloss for a glamorous pout or go for the creamy stick of lipcolor?
Me? On a desert island I totally have lipgloss on hand.
Aside from that…I’m a layer girl and I use both lipstick and lipcolor daily. Why? Well a few beautiful reasons:
Dimensional Color Applying a coat of lipstick, a shimmery lipgloss highlighter, and then full coat of clear or slightly tinted gives lips glamorous dimension. The colors enhance each other and make it more a custom look overall. You can have a lot of fun mixing and matching various lipglosses with lipsticks for different looks too!
Staying Power Pout
Then there’s the fact that you’ve got more than one layer of color making it last longer throughout the day. Just don’t mash your face into a sandwich and those lips will look lush for hours and hours. If you use a lip pencil to start then you can make that color last even longer!
Moisturizing Color
I live in a desert and my skin already has the tendency for dryness so if I want my color to not look scaly after the first half hour the layer of gloss is a must. This could also be the case for you girls in the dry Midwest, or during dry seasons such as winter and summer. I’ve also found lipgloss alone has a tendency to lose it’s own color (if it’s a tint) really quickly so glossing over the thicker color of a lipstick keeps it moist & colorful.
So it’s really not much of a contest if you think about it – Use both and you’ll maximize your beauty!
Got some favorite lip products you can’t live without? Tell me about it :) My current stockpile includes an assortment of Maybelline Lip Polish glosses – cheap, pretty and complimentary. Try them out yourself and let me know what your current favorites are.

Whether you are an elegant bronzed goddess or a freckled little pixie this is the season for some skin and body skimming silhouettes. How do ya work your style without breaking into a huge sweat with options and trends? Fret ye not! I Got some tips for you to work your own summer style this year!
Choosing Color
Now is the season where your color choices can brighten into bolder hues like aqua, tangerine, tomato red, etc. Though the colors are truer and more saturated there is a lot to choose from (a relief to hear for those of us who have a damnable time wearing summer colors such as orange and yellow). This is also a time when warm neutrals really shine such as tan, bronze, creamy beige, or soft sandstone. Neutrals can be your ticket to summer sophistication, trust me! Bright colors are fun and flirty but neutrals really smolder. Feel free to mix and match bold color with neutral hues such as dressy brown shorts with a turquoise (the “color of the year” for 2010) tank top.
*Speaking of neutrals you might want to get your hands on your own version of the “Little White Dress” and pair it with stylish accessories such as a black jacket like Zoe Saldana wears here, funky beaded necklaces, or even denim. It’s a great fashion staple that transitions beautifully from Spring to Summer.
I’m a fan of getting inspiration from the surrounding environment when I choose color. Choosing from warm sunny scenes is what you’re looking for with this method. Desert palettes can include shades of orange, bright blue, light green, & stony beige. Colors like sky blue and soft gold evoke an easy breezy day at the beach. You can even go all out with tropical colors – bright pink, emerald green, white, purple, yellow, etc. Or perhaps you can take your que from the romance of a summer sunset with a sensual mix of blushing pinks, purples, and gold.
Classic, Funky, Sweet, or Elegant?
Trends abound during this time so it’s not all short shorts and tees. How you want to play out your style is entirely up to you. You could go classic and crisp like Jackie O. You could get your beach goddess on with flowing strappy gowns in golden earth tones. Or pile on the chunky beads and bangles for a funky exotic look.
One of the trends I’m liking this year is Western Wear – giving me an excuse to put my cowboy hat on every other day! I’ll pair it with items such as a flowing white skirt, to glittery chandelier earrings, to jeans and a well loved and form fitting graphic tee. You could go sweet with this look by wearing prairie skirts & blouses, or try going rugged and a little rock & roll with sand blasted jeans and suede.
Hair, Makeup, and All the Lovely Details
Around this time beach babes all over are gettin their highlight on. Which is just fine – the lighter days treat lighter locks much easier than dark shades. If you happen to color your hair red consider using a spray in conditioner with a sun screen to protect it during times you’re out in the sun. Otherwise the rays will suck out the color in no time. Also consider incorporating some fashionable hats to keep your color fresh for as long as possible.
I’m going to rave about mineral makeup again – I can’t help myself. This is a time where I really really appreciate the qualities of a good mineral foundation. This stuff is less likely to ooze off your face during sweaty moments. And it feels so wonderfully weightless! An added benefit (god, I could totally go on and on actually) is its water resistance so take note you water babies.
This is a great time to pile on your favorite bling & bangles. Wear dripping pendants and chains with camisoles and shorts. Stack up those bracelets! Whatever you do with your jewels mix it up and don’t get too matchy matchy (that looks a bit old and frumpy).
So what are you excited to wear this Summer? Let me know! And feel free to share your own style tips in the comments below.
Happy Styling!
