[365day Fashion] Taking Winter style cues from celebs at Sundance
January is a month of star gazing here in my home state. With the Sundance Film Festival just wrapping up in Park City I thought I’d do a post about winter style – with some big names and up-and-comers providing some fashionable (and a few not so fashionable) examples. Just like you and me they try their best to look good, they just happen to be in front of a bijillion cameras while doing so. There were definitely some fashion faux pas but I want to focus on mostly what worked beautifully during this pretty cold month (with on again – off again weather I might add). So here’s some style inspiration for indoors and out, night and day looks that you can still rock for probably at least another month ;)

Braving the Cold
——————————————————————————–
Utah gets some pretty wacky weather – especially during Winter and Spring. This year was no exception when a blizzard hit just after a bit of a warm spell. But the stars stepped out in their finest and quirkiest outdoor attire.
What worked:
- Shearling lined coats
- Quirky fur trimmed boots with flat heels
- Basic black and creamy white
- Big leather totes
——————————————————————————–
Looking Casual and Cool
——————————————————————————–
Indoors was warmer especially under the hot lights of the camera flash but stars managed to keep stylish with cool Winter layers.
Chic accessories:
- Black tights with skirts or shorts & boots
- Neutral colored crocheted beanies
- Voluminous scarves
- Rich warm colors & cool muted tones

Partying the Night Away
——————————————————————————–
At night things heated up with some simply chic looks that were super sexy as co-stars cuddled up and played into the wee hours.
Love:
- Again, black tights were awesome – sometimes patterned, sometimes smooth.
- Short skirts and mini dresses
- Simple cuts with plenty of fashion punch

Not So Stylish
—————————————————————————–
Not all celebrities got it right…or got it right all the time. It’s pointless to name names I think but it would do you well to avoid being this cliche and tacky indoors and out.
Please Don’t:
- do the “ski bunny” look of all white OR all black…it just looks silly.
- stuff yourself into unforgiving tops or bottoms
- be a slave to the high heel – there’s plenty of chic (and safe) flats out there to try
There you have it – some great examples to work your own winter style with. Click on the photos to check out my Shopstyle lookbooks created from each of the themes here!
I’ll see you tomorrow for some more girly-ness ;)

Obsessed with the bright yellow & red sweaters. It’s so refreshing to see vibrant colors in the winter!

Hi Agatha. I agree – I love adding color during the cold months, afterall it’s already pretty colorless in the surrounding environment so wearing something bright and fun gives a little more punch and personality,
Thanks for checking out the post!

Yay style best friends! Tights are my go-to accessory for winter too but I’m also getting into and loving the style power of scarves right now – they’re kind of like fluffy warm necklaces dontcha think? :D
Thanks for commenting Rose!
