[365day Attitude] A girl’s Monday playlist to fight winter blues
Woke up today feeling quite blue. It’s probably a mixture of pre-menstrual bs, the dreary cold weather outside, and my stop-n-start internet connection. Oh yeah, and I read on Shopstyle that today is the “most depressing day of the year”. Gawd. Hard to get stuff done and have enthusiasm for interesting projects when you feel like punching a hole in the universe with your screaming or crying till your eyes bleed huh? Yeah? We girls are sensitive and passionate creatures.
So instead of getting my female freak out on I decided to get some music playing to soothe my savage breast (yep that’s really how the saying goes, you can look it up). Here’s what I got going on, give these girl groove tracks a listen and you may feel much much better. Santogold/You’ll Find a Way: The remix of this is so sassy and fun to dance to. Found out about Santogold from a girl friend of a friend and fell instantly in love with the singer after watching her glorious innovative music video for Les Artistes. She’s a must have on your playlists!
Ladytron/Blue Jeans: So wonderfully modern and retro at the same time. Whimsical with a bite and super catchy. Love how the lyrics to their songs are so prettily pessimistic and snarky but oh so fun.
M.I.A./20 Dollars: M.I.A. is a girl after my own heart. She looks like she’s having so much mischievous and ghettoglam fun you can’t help but want to join in. This track totally packs a punch.
Eurythmics/Missionary Man: A classic chick rock song from one an artist I’ve admired ever since I was little. I’ve had a lot of fun lipsynching to this song.
Tori Amos/Professional Widow: Oh Tori, you are such a musical genius and I love how your songs lend so well to intriguing remixes like this one by Armand Van Helden. The mashup video of her videos is cool too!
Beyonce/Run The World: My bff recently got me into this song and video with an email about how much she freakin loved the woman, artist, and filming of it all. Sasha Fierce indeed! And can you believe the gowns she’s wearing? My god, it’s a haute couture dream come true!!
Gwen Stefani/What Are You Waiting For?: I love the Jacques Lu Conte remix of this song which is already a wonderful girl anthem. Super super danceable and does a fantastic job of motivating me to rock.
Fergie/Fergalicious: This song just cheers me up and makes me giggle – it’s so much fun! And again, easy to get one’s dance on to!
Garbage/Push It: Shirley Manson is so dirty pretty and the ultimate grunge goddess in this now classic hit from the 90’s.
Goldfrapp/Ride a White Horse: Ms Goldfrapp is chic, sexy, and is happy to not take herself at all seriously in this glamorous but cutely tacky video and song. Love her!
Grimes/Oblivion: The newest girl to rock my world – Claire Bouche the singularly enchanting artist that makes up the band known as Grimes. Oblivion is lighthearted and delightful while also being a touch…electronically spooky. She’s sooooooo up my alley.
One more thing – this list is NOT definitive, there’s a whole lot of awesome songs to add to it which I will in time :) This is just to start. And hey – send me your blues bustin tunes ok?
